Codex
The second rule of the Codex addresses what you do once you have accepted the first. Awareness is the entry condition. Intention is the practice. Most people inherit their script. Their preferences, their politics, their ambitions, their idea of a good life — almost all of it was installed by environment, family, and algorithm before they were old enough to audit any of it. They then spend the rest of their lives executing the script with conviction, mistaking inheritance for choice. Playing with intention is the discipline of asking, repeatedly, whether the things you want are things you actually want. It is examining the script line by line and rewriting the lines that do not survive examination. This is not the same as rejecting everything you were taught. Most of it will hold up. Some of it will not. The point is that you are the one deciding, instead of the system deciding through you.
